Jazz up boring vegetables

Boring veg: carrots, beans, broccoli, doesn't your heart just sink when presented with a plateful of those on the side of otherwise interesting dish? Lucky at least if they aren't overcooked. There is a very easy way to zing them up and make the whole dish appear and taste really chefy.

Just melt a tablespoon of butter or heat up olive oil in a little skillet. Add a tablespoon or dried breadcrumbs and another of grated Parmesan. Season heavily with black pepper (or anything else you fancy: garlic or onion powder? za'tar? dried herbs? knock yourself out.) and cook for half a minute, or more if you'd like it crisper. Sprinkle over cooked vegetables and wait for applause.
